About Satnam Singh Sandhu
Coming from humble beginnings, Satnam Singh Sandhu imbibed the virtues of perseverance, tenacity and fortitude, drawing inspiration from his freedom-fighter grandfather and his devoted farmer father. He is a member of Parliament in the upper house (Rajya Sabha), an ardent nationalist, an eminent educationist, and a venerable philanthropist who has built an illustrious legacy of more than 25 years with the establishment of India’s premier higher educational institutions and India’s leading think tanks. A widely respected leader among minority communities, he has been working relentlessly to bring together Indians around the world, transcending all faiths, to strengthen the spirit of unity, peace and harmony, and together, build a Viksit Bharat.

Early Life and Foundation Years (1969 - 2000)
11th September 1969 – Satnam Singh Sandhu was born in Cheema, Tarn Taran, Punjab, into a humble farming family. His father, Pipal Singh, and mother, Kashmir Kaur, nurtured in him the values of hard work and integrity, while his grandfather, a freedom fighter, inspired perseverance, courage, and resilience. He grew up in Ferozepur, Punjab, in a modest farming household. Despite limited access to quality education, he remained determined and committed to his studies. During his school and college days, he actively assisted his father in agricultural work, which instilled in him a deep connection with his motherland.

April 2022 – Established NID Foundation, with a vision to build a resilient India, actively fostering multi-stakeholder partnerships to share knowledge and expertise, drive change, and contribute significantly to nation-building. December 2022 – Appointed as member of the Administrator’s Advisory Council, Union Territory Chandigarh (term: Jan 1, 2023–Dec 31, 2024. Under this, served as Chairman of the Standing Committee on Environment.
