Event Overview
"Revealing the Invisible: Instrumental Chemistry in Environmental Monitoring" workshop by the Department of Chemistry is designed to provide participants with a structured understanding of modern instrumental techniques used in environmental analysis, focusing on both theoretical principles and practical applications.
Participants will be introduced to UV-Visible Spectroscopy, Fluorescence Spectroscopy, FT-IR, and GC-MS, with emphasis on how these techniques are used for the detection, identification, and interpretation of environmental pollutants. The program combines expert lectures, live instrument demonstrations, and guided hands-on training, allowing participants to observe real analytical workflows and data interpretation processes.
The workshop will be conducted by Dr. Narinder Singh, Professor, Department of Chemistry, IIT Ropar, whose academic and research experience will provide participants with insights into instrument selection, operational fundamentals, result interpretation, and common analytical challenges in environmental monitoring.
Objectives
To develop conceptual and practical understanding of modern analytical instruments, UV-Visible Spectroscopy, Fluorescence Spectroscopy, FT-IR, and GC-MS, for the detection, identification, and interpretation of environmental pollutants.
To enhance hands-on analytical skills and scientific engagement through expert lectures, live demonstrations, practical training sessions, and an interactive quiz led by an experienced academic, enabling participants to apply these techniques in environmental
