Event Overview
CONFLOAT-3.0 is a departmental core technical competition organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, Chandigarh University, under the banner of the ASCE Student Chapter, Chandigarh University, as part of Innovfest-2026. The competition focuses on the design and development of floating concrete models using lightweight and innovative materials.
By applying the principles of concrete technology, buoyancy, material optimisation, and sustainable construction, the event offers hands-on experiential learning while promoting teamwork, problem-solving, and industry-oriented practical skills.
Objectives
Innovation in concrete materials and lightweight construction techniques, building the next-generation design and construction practices.
Hands-on opportunities to witness the amalgamation of design and buoyancy principles, strengthening the practical understanding of the structure's overall performance and stability.
Development of teamwork, time management, and experimental skills for real-world engineering challenges.
Sustainable and industry-relevant engineering solutions to address tomorrow's engineering and structural challenges.

Who can Participate?
Undergraduate, Diploma, and Postgraduate students of Civil Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design, and other Engineering disciplines with an interest in materials, structures, and sustainable construction are eligible to participate.
Team Size: Minimum two members and maximum three members

Schedule & Timeline
Date: 20th & 21st February 2026
Day 1:
• Casting of floating concrete specimens (90 minutes per team)
Day 2:
Demoulding and performance testing
Demoulding Deadline: 10:00 AM
Venue: Workshop-106, Concrete Laboratory, Chandigarh University

Qualifying Rounds & SelectionThe competition will be conducted in two rounds:
Round 1:
Verification of dimensions and basic creative structure.
Teams must bring their own moulds: Rectangular- Max 45 cm x 30 cm × 30 cm and Circular- Max diameter 30 cm × height 30 cm
The university will provide cement, fine aggregates, and Thermocol sheets.
No extra or unauthorized materials are allowed before casting.
Only teams following all rules will qualify for casting.
Round 2:
Casting and testing of the floating concrete model.
Only approved materials are allowed during casting.
Evaluation Criteria: Weight-to-buoyancy performance of the model
Finishing quality will be considered in case of a tie
Judging Criteria:
• Final results will be declared based on the judges' evaluation.
